Taylor Battles Chassis Setup at Chula Vista
Belvidere, IL (July 30, 2008) - Taylor Racing has been struggling,
much of the year, with the chassis setup on his newly built #8
Skyjacker Suspensions BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 PRO-2. The team was
looking forward to racing back at “The Quarry” in Chula Vista, as a
familiar track would, hopefully, get Scott Taylor and his Ford F-150
back on track.
The track at “The Quarry” was identical to the layout from last year,
with one exception, a high flying table top jump, on the front
straight away; this replaced the choppy rhythm section from the
original layout. This brought the high flying action closer to the
fans, and lowered the lap times around the .75 mile “Chunk of Baja.”
Friday evening qualifying saw Scott Taylor stop the clocks eighth
fastest, in the twenty three truck PRO-2 field. Scott and his Chief
Engineer, Russ Wernimont, were hoping for a better lap time, as the
truck is still having chassis issues.
Saturday – Round 7
The PRO-2 race saw the SPEED Channel cameras all set to go, as the
network would be broadcast the event, live, for the second time this
year.
Scott Taylor and his #8 Skyjacker Suspensions BFGoodrich Tires Ford
F-150 PRO-2 were looking to keep a good pace the first half of the
race and then make the move, to the front, in the final seven laps.
When the green flag dropped, Scott realized he didn’t have the forward
bite needed to really run up front. Nevertheless, the Skyjacker Ford
soldiered on, without any mechanical issues, to finish in seventh
place.
As the crew went to work with the usual between round maintenance,
Scott and Russ continued to discuss their chassis setup. The changes
made between qualifying and the race helped, but more improvement is
needed.
Sunday morning qualifying put Scott in a familiar position, eighth
quickest.
Sunday – Round 8
The Sunday PRO racers had NBC Sports, on hand, with Bill Weber and
Wally Dallenbach, for a live broadcast on network television.
Once again, when the green flag dropped on the rolling start, Scott
wasn’t getting hooked up to the ground like he needed. Then on lap
six, the distributor broke, ending the day for the #8 Skyjacker
Suspensions BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150. Officially Scott Taylor
finished twentieth.

“We had our new engine in the truck this weekend,” commented Scott
Taylor. “But we just could not get any bite coming out of the
corners. The truck handles the bumps and jumps well, the BFGoodrich
tires are not wearing out, in fact there’s very little wear. the
balance of the truck isn’t where it needs to be. The Roush Yates
engine is awesome, we just had a spot weld break, inside the
distributor. I’ve never seen that happen before. Russ and I will
keep putting our heads together to get “this ship righted.”
Hopefully, third time’s a charm in Pomona.”

After eight rounds of racing, Scott Taylor is eighth in the 2008 CORR
PRO-2 Championship.
Next Race: August 16-17, 2008, at the LA County Fairgrounds in Pomona,
California.
